Marion (Wooldridge) Ruiz

GROVELAND: Marion (Wooldridge) Ruiz, 92, a longtime resident of Belmont, died April 11, 2010 at her daughter’s home. Mrs. Ruiz was the wife of the late Ernest Ruiz.

Born in New Bedford, MA on November 20, 1917, Mrs. Ruiz was the second youngest of nine children born to the late George Alfred and Annie (Cartwright) Wooldridge.

Marion moved to Cambridge after the 9th grade, and graduated from Cambridge High & Latin, Class of 1935, at the age of seventeen. She immediately began her employment at Rival Foods in Cambridge where she met her late husband, Ernest Ruiz. They married the same year. They purchased their home in Belmont in December of 1940, where she lived for 64 years.

After raising her two children, Marion took a part-time job typing for a Professor Emeritus at Harvard Law School and, remarkably, retired from the Law School in 1982 as the Director of Financial Aid.

Marion will be remembered by her sister Alice, son Glenn, daughter Linda, son-in-law Peter, granddaughters, Nicole Nagy of Milford, NH, Cheryl Scales of West Boylston, MA, Marguerite Fijux and Nautalice Fijux of Groveland, MA, eight great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends for her kind heart, sharp mind and acute sense of humor.

Friends are invited to attend calling hours at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill on Saturday, April 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The memorial service to follow will be private. Donations in her memory may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St, Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01834, Smile Train, Project Hope, Doctors With-Out Borders, or any environmental or animal welfare organization.
