Pierce M. Hoyt

HAVERHILL: Pierce M. Hoyt, Sr., 89, died May 12th at his home. He was the husband of the late Bernice E. (Woodman) Hoyt to whom he was married for 26 years.

Born in Haverhill July 19, 1918, he was the son of the late Pierce V. and Helen E. (Fogg) Hoyt.

Educated in Haverhill Mr. Hoyt graduated from Haverhill High School class of 1936. He then joined the U. S. Army and during the war served as a Coxwain on landing craft with the 544th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment. During his twenty month oversea service he participated in landing in New Guinea, Dutch East Indies, Leyte, Luzon, and Honshu, Japan. Following his discharge he worked for Keezer Mfg. in Plaistow, J.P. Stevens in Andover, and then as a Sr. Power Plant Operator for the City of Haverhill at Merrimack Valley Hospital before his retirement in 2003.

He was an active member of the Second Baptist Church where he participated in the choir and traveled to area nursing homes sharing gospel music. He had a deep appreciation for nature and animals surrounding his property in Bradford.

He is survived by his son Pierce M. Hoyt, Jr. and wife Lisa of Grafton, NY, and grandchildren Adrienne, Connor and Bradford. He was the brother of the late Helen G. Hoyt.

Friends are invited to the Memorial Service May 23rd at 1:00 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church. Interment at Linwood Cemetery. At the family request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements by Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Baptist Church, 314 Amesbury Line Road, Haverhill, MA 01830.
