Raymond A. “Ray” Germain
HAVERHILL: Raymond A. “Ray” Germain, 70, passed away on November 29, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the husband of Jean M. (Smith) Germain.
Born in Haverhill on April 28, 1946, he was the son of the late Raymond J.T. and Thelma E. (Bailey) Germain.
Ray graduated from Pentucket Regional High School, Class of 1964. He continued his education at Wentworth Institute of Technology receiving degrees in Building Construction Technology and Architectural Engineering Technology. He also attended Northern Essex Community College, and received his degree in Electronic Technology.
Out of college Ray was employed as a merchandizer for Armstrong Cork Co travelling throughout New England and New York. He also enjoyed working in the lumber yard industry prior to joining Western Electric where he was employed for 20 years. With a good work ethic and course studies, he advanced to electronic technician before retiring in 2000.
Ray was a dedicated spectator at his children’s athletic, dance and musical events. He was active in Boy Scouts, and volunteered in the community, church and schools.
Ray valued education, a healthy lifestyle and his family, traits he happily passed on to his children and grandchildren. He was a bicyclist, reader, puzzler and do-it-yourselfer. He enjoyed watching sports, a good pun, and the outdoors and appreciated the “old ways” and could spend hours revisiting a time gone by through historical events, homes, trains, bridges and cars. He owned a 1946 Hudson in hopes of restoring it one day.
Besides his wife of 45 years, Ray is survived by his children, Alison Krepp and husband Larry of Frederick, MD, Matthew Germain and wife Caitlyn of Spencer, MA, Colleen Brennan and husband Rob of Troy, NH; grandchildren, Larry, Mareks and Valerijs Krepp, Raea Germain, Reilly and Gabriel Brennan; sister, Suzanne Raymond of Bradford, and cousins, nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral on Friday, December 9th, at 11:00 A.M. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main Street, Haverhill. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to East Hampstead Union Church, P.O. Box 109, East Hampstead, NH 03826.
