Richard “Dick” Thistle
Haverhill, MA — Richard “Dick” Thistle passed away on December 31, 2012 surrounded by family. Dick was born on June 24, 1930 in Malden, MA, the son of Samuel and Victoria Thistle.
Dick was raised in Everett, MA and graduated from Everett High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and was an active member of both the Disabled American Veterans(Chapter #85) and the American Legion (Post #69), both of Malden, MA. Dick was a loyal Freemason and member of the Mount Vernon-Galilean Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Malden, MA.
Dick was the owner of R.S. Thistle & Co. Rigging of Malden, MA for over 40 years. In his retirement, Dick enjoyed his wife and his grandchildren immensely. Dick was an ardent patriot, an avid reader, and will be remembered as a virtuous, kind-hearted, and generous man to all who knew him.
He was the brother of Louise McDonald, Jean Finnemore, Edward Thistle, and (of late) William, Wesley, Lester, Wally, John, and Elsie Thistle. Dick is also survived by his wife of 26 years Catherine-Debbie (Alves) Thistle, son Stephen Smith of Haverhill, MA, son Todd Smith and his wife Dorinda of Old Lyme (CT), daughter Michelle Croteau and her husband Gary of Danville (NH), daughter Catherine Thistle of Billerica, and daughter Karen (Thistle) Clickstein of Westfield, and five grandchildren: Richard Brown and his wife Maggie, Neil and Ned Smith, and Chloe and Katie Croteau, and two great-grandchildren: Molly and Richard Brown. He was also uncle to several nieces and nephews.
